ACCOMODATION AT A GLANCE

Simeulue Surflodges provides a peaceful getaway on the island's west coast, featuring three cabanas and a treehouse with adjustable air conditioning, private bathrooms, and verandas overlooking the Indian Ocean. Guests can enjoy views of the surf-break Dylans and beautiful sunsets. The lodge blends traditional Indonesian design with Western comforts like soft beds.

THE WAVES

Simeulue, 120km off Sumatra's west coast, is a hidden gem for surfers, unlike the more crowded spots like Nias and the Mentawais. Here are the best surf spots on the island:

  • Dylans Right: Just 100m from our door, this powerful right-hander offers hollow tubes and long rides.

  • Gila Left: A fun left-hander over a deeper reef, just a 5-minute drive from Dylans.

  • One Thong: Consistent year-round with fun right-hand waves, perfect when other spots are small.

  • Tea-Bags: A heavy right-hand reef break on a nearby island. Short boat ride required.

  • Jackals: A reliable spot with both lefts and rights, breaking over a reef with sand and rocks.

  • Thailand: A left-hand reef break with challenging sections, ideal for both longboards and shortboards

Undiscovered Spots: Explore the island by motorbike to find your own secret surf spots, away from the crowds.

NON SURFING ACTIVITIES

On Simeulue Island, boredom is simply not an option. While surfing remains a primary draw, for those looking to explore beyond the waves, options include waterfall hikes in the rainforest, spearfishing and snorkeling excursions, night hikes into the forest, tours to the Banyak Islands with and even trips to remote, deserted islands. As a special perk, guests who book these trips through the resort will receive a 20% discount.

The island offers much more to its visitors beyond organised activities. Simeulue is home to beautiful deserted beaches, enchanting caves, lush forests, diverse wildlife, and rich cultural experiences in its small towns. Visitors can explore serene lakes, majestic waterfalls.

"My stay at Simeulue Surflodges was incredible! This place is a hidden gem: Simeulue, Aceh, and it offers an authentic, old-school Indonesian experience. We stayed for about 4 weeks and I've never had so many good waves and coconuts in one month."

HOW TO GET THERE

Book your flights to the international airport in Medan, Indonesia, which can be reached via major hubs like Jakarta, Bali, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, or Bangkok.

Upon arriving in Medan, you can take a 1-hour flight to Simeulue Island on the same day with Wings Air. Depending on your international flight's arrival time, an overnight stay in Medan might be necessary. We can assist in booking your domestic flight (Medan-Simeulue) and recommend a range of excellent, clean, and affordable accommodations in Medan, from 3 to 5-star hotels.

Getting to Simeulue Island is straightforward with two main options: by airplane or by ferry. The quickest and most convenient way is to fly from Kuala Namu International Airport (KNO) in Medan to Lasikin Sinabang Airport (SMG) on Simeulue. Both Wings Air and Susi Air operate flights several times a week, making it easy to reach the island efficiently. Alternatively, for those who prefer a scenic route, taking a ferry from Singkil Aceh (in West Sumatra) to the harbor of Sinabang Simeulue is a viable option. To get to Singkil Aceh harbor, you can either take a local bus or hire a private driver.

Step 1: Booking Your Flights
You can book directly on www.lionair.co.id and www.susiair.com. Make sure to reserve a spot for your board bag to ensure it is loaded onto your flight.

Step 2: Booking Your Ferry
The ferry schedule from Singkil to Sinabang Simeulue varies monthly. To get the most accurate and up-to-date information, drop us a message, and we will assist you with the ferry arrangements.

Step 3: Don't Forget Your Supplies
Remember to withdraw enough cash from an ATM at the airport or a major city before arriving on Simeulue. The island's only ATM in Sinabang is often out of order, and it can be challenging for foreigners to withdraw money with non-Indonesian bank cards. Our team at Swell Seekerz is always available to help with any travel arrangements and ensure your journey to Simeulue Island is smooth and enjoyable.
